The movie The Pension Fight Club (a documentary that is currently streaming), chronicles major public pensions in the U.S. STRS was one of the pensions highlighted. The film is supposed to appear in theaters, but to view now, go to https://pensionfightclub.com and click on the purchase to watch button. Pay $9.00. After you purchase, you can watch as many times as you like on multiple devices.
Another item of interest concerns an article that appeared in the June 2026 Journal of New Finance titled "Refinement at Risk: The Political Economy of Public Pension Governance, The article states that STRS uses two sets of figures, (one audited, the other not). The unaudited figures are used to award performance bonuses to STRS staff. According to the article, when comparing audited to unaudited figures, in 19 out of f20 cases, the figures did not match.
Please contact your state elected officials and urge them to pass HB719. This bill eliminates the Midnight Massacre Amendment to the state budget bill that changed the majority of STRS board members from elected to appointed positions. Thankfully, the stay granted by the courts is still in effect.
