The Mahoning Retired teachers Association met on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Drake's Landing. President Susan Harris welcomed members and called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance, singing of god Bless America, and a prayer before lunch was made. following lunch, Phil Butto introduced the guest speaker, Dr. Jay Brock. Dr. Brock, from the Cleveland Clinic spoke on advances in genomic medicine and standard of care. Following his presentation, Carol Kinsey, our Northeast Ohio ORTA representative discussed happenings at STRS including the COA, Medicare supplements, and AETNA Medicare home health care wellness assessments. Over $300 was collected for The Potential Development Center. Members also filled out volunteer hour forms for the firs half of he year. The meeting was adjourned. Respectfully, Mary Grace Fowler.
SEPTEMBER 12, 2018 MEETING MINUTES
The meting was called to order by Phil Butto VP, taking the place of Susan Harris. Gale Herron led members in singing God bless America and the pledge to the flag. Martha Lopez led the group in prayer. Head table included: Phil Butto, Angie Bilkie, MG Fowler, Debra Mettee, guest speaker, Shirley Eckly and husband. Phil Butto introduced the speaker, Shirley Eckly, a descent of William Holmes McGuffey. She shared WHM's life story and invited members to look through books she brought. Maggie Skirpac introduced two new retirees, Debra Thomas from MCTC and Doreen Hunter from Wilson. It was announced that donations are being accepted for the scholarship fund. Donations at this meeting will be for Young Women With Bright Futures YWCA. Next meeting will be Wednesday, November 14, 2018. Reservations are needed the Wednesday before the meeting, no later. The November meeting will honor veterans and scholarship winners will be introduced.

November 14, 2018 Meeting Minutes
President Susan Harris called the meting to order, followed by a prayer,, God bless America, and pledge to the flag.
American Legion representatives presented the colors in honor of Veterans Day. Lunch was served.
Sonia Tsvetkoff introduced the two recipients of the MRTA scholarship. Lindsay Soltis and John Rozum spoke to the members in appreciation.
Phil Butto introduced Deana DeLuco whom spoke on "Mindfulness and Meditation."
President Susan Harris announced that MRTA has 674 lifetime members and 98 annual members at this time. A 50/50 raffle to begin at the December meeting to supplement the treasury. Members were encouraged to donate to the Canfield Veterans Auxiliary at this meeting. It was announced that donations in November totaled $376 for YMCA Young Women With Bright Futures. December donations will go to Salvation Army, toys, and cash donations.
