The midnight massacre amendment to the budget bill that changed the composition of the STRS board is not going unchallenged, ORTA is working with other interested organizations to challenge this action, both legally and legislatively. Presently, we are being asked to be patient, and if possible, to contribute to the ORTA Pension Defense fund. In other action, the suit brought by Dean Dennis and Bob Buerkle challenging he elimination of the COLA will be heard this October. The second case to be tried in October is the one involving Wade Steen and Rudy Fichtenbaum. Attorney General Yost alleges both of these board members breached their fiduciary duty and must be removed from the board. An anonymous memo that STRS management and legal staff wrote prompted this suit.
